About the event

Three quarters of England’s rivers are in poor ecological status. To restore our river ecosystems and future proof them against future environmental impacts and climate change will require a landscape / ecosystem-scale approach to planning and management. This lecture explores the concept of landscape approach and some of the current radical thinking and practices considered in river catchments.

Fortunately, East Suffolk Council and Deben Climate Centre have created a partnership to address some of the problems which beset our rivers. With loss of attenuation capacity and disimproving water quality, we now face a dramatic increase in flooding frequency, with catastrophic impacts on communities along the length of the district. The 4 Rivers Recovery Project aims to create local community-led plans which will involve all stakeholders, in a radical effort to adapt our landscapes to meet these new threats.

Professor Peter Hobson is currently Emeritus Professor in Biodiversity Conservation…
